AFCEA Central Maryland's goal to educate and inspire the next generation of technical professionals is one that we take very seriously. It’s more than just giving money for scholarships or grants. in 2017, we started the Summer Internship Presentation Showcase (SIPS) competition where we give interns an opportunity to learn how to make presentations in front of groups of people. And earn some scholarship money for those who win!
It’s time for you to sign up for this year’s competition – 2025. We anticipate holding Presentation Day on 6 August 2025.
SIPS is a premier opportunity for summer interns from participating Central Maryland Chapter Sponsors to practice their presentation skills and demonstrate their technical excellence. It is our goal that as the summer interns share their achievements with others in the community, they also will be sharing and building their passion and excitement for technology to meet the mission in our community.
Interns from Sponsor companies of all sizes are welcome to participate. The showcase gives interns (individually or as project teams) the opportunity to make a timed 15 minute presentation about their summer projects in front of a panel of judges and a broader audience. Each presenter/team will receive three professional presentation coaching sessions prior to the showcase. Following the formal presentations, there will be time allotted for interns to discuss, and demonstrate as appropriate, their projects while the judges determine the winners.
We award scholarship fund prizes to each team (each member of the team receives $500) that is selected for Best Presentation, Best Technical Project, and Best Overall. Winning the SIPS Challenge can be a financial benefit and is a coveted addition to a student’s resume!
Individual or team entries are accepted on a first-come first-serve basis. There is no entry fee this year. Each Sponsor company can register an individual intern or a team of up to three interns making a single presentation.
REGISTRATION IS LIMITED to the first 10 companies that respond. Please email SIPS@centralmd.afceachapters.org if you are interested in having your intern(s) participate but no later than May 30th. Once we know who will participate, we will ask you to register your team.
